G20 Innovation League

On October 9th and 10th in Sorrento, the G20 Italian Presidency is hosting an event dedicated to innovation, which is instrumental to the Trade Ministerial Track. The initiative is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Technological Innovation and Digital Transition, and the Ministry of Economic Development, and is organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA-ICE) jointly with the Italian National Innovation Fund of CDP (CDP FNI) and SIMEST.

It is a unique opportunity for startups to present their solutions on a global stage, for  investors to showcase their portfolio companies, discover and assess innovative solutions, for  policy makers to witness first-hand how innovation can respond to society’s complex needs with ground-breaking and disruptive technologies, and for firms to explore opportunities for inventing and investing in innovative solutions.

Host city: Sorrento

Agenda

The event will start by featuring a plenary panel discussion, focusing on the “challenges” that need to be faced and the opportunities these provide to promote international trade, investment, and innovation for the benefit of society. Next, five sessions, each discussing a different “challenge” will be held simultaneously.

Every Member Country will nominate five VC investors in charge of selecting the most suitable startup for each of the five challenges posed. Accordingly, the 20 selected startups will participate in the five vertical pitch sessions, that will be enriched by speeches from part of key stakeholders and decision makers within the sector, illustrating the future prospects for each challenge:

o Challenges and opportunities of Cleantech

o Maximizing the potential of AI while managing its risks

o Augmenting humans with IoT and wearables technology

o Building smart cities and the future of mobility (with a specific focus on green and smart mobility)

o Reinventing the future of healthcare

The Final plenary session will present the top 10 startups selected as examples of real and concrete opportunities to tackle global challenges and foster global investment and trade.

The event will be hosted in both a physical and virtual format: in the prestigious venue of Sorrento or via online streaming sessions at a dedicated platform (www.g20innovationleague.com), in which the audience may schedule B2B meetings with the startups involved.
